Just an average guys thoughts

And so it begins………………………

As stated earlier, now that the food issues have been mostly resolved, it is time to begin the workout regiment.

Phase one: Diet.

The “diet” began January 4, 2010. The diet of choice, The Atkins diet. The Atkins diet is primarily, protein based and limits the amount of carbohydrates you may have. This is excellent for individuals with Celiac disease or some variation of it. I should note that weight loss by itself, is not the goal. It will be a byproduct of the work.

Erics stats:

Age: 50 Height: 5′ 11″ Weight: 240.5 Lbs.  % of body fat: too much!

Week ones diet only, with no exercise produced a weight loss of 8 Lbs. Current weight: 232.5. The diet consisted of:

  1. Breakfast: eggs, sausage, bacon, water.
  2. Lunch: Hamburger (no buns), ham, hard boiled eggs, water
  3. Snacks: Hard boiled eggs, olives, pickles (check the carb count, sweet gherkins are out), cheese, water.
  4. Dinner: Chicken, Steak, Fish, and Pork Chops or Roast, water.
  5. No Vegetables
  6. No Fruit
  7. No drinks besides water and decaffeinated tea
  8. No sweets of any kind
  9. No alcohol! 😦

The above is the “induction” portion of the Atkins diet. It lasts two weeks and is designed to send your body into “ketosis“. There are testing strips available for this. As of today, January 10, 2011, I am one level below full ketosis or the darkest purple color on the testing strip.

As for supplements, I am only taking Centrum “Silver” vitamins, and a big thanks to those guys for not making the cap childproof! I also take “Trigosamine” as a supplement for my knee. Of all the joint supplements, this works the best for me.

Now that the weight loss is under way, time to work on the cardiovascular portion of the plan. Yesterday was the unofficial start. I jogged 1/2 way around the block and did 10 minutes on the elliptical machine here at the house. This was done to test my left knee as I am really not supposed to be running.

This morning I woke up and there was a little soreness in the knee, nothing major. Later today, I will go for a 1/2 an hour on the elliptical and a full jog around the block. Assuming I do not suffer any injury, this will be the plan for this week. I also have to find a gym to work out for phase three, strength training, which should begin next week.

Stay tuned………………………………………
